While moving from being a heterosexual male to a bisexual and finally a homosexual, Cortez faces inevitable challenges, but as he learns that things which are hidden or suppressed in the human mind eventually come to light, he finds the strength to overcome life's challenges and allow the peace and joy within himself to flourish. Jàthan Vandez, an accounting professional by trade, took a leap of faith on a journey in becoming a self-published author. His aspiration to write novels started somewhat as a therapeutic diversion, or hobby in the mid-1990s. He had written a short-story, seven-chapter manuscript for his friends to read, titled "Healing a Lifetime of Pain." He wrote his initial inspirational manuscript based on topics that he could personally relate to and narrate. He recognized that this could be such a relatable story of family, love, pain, and healing to quite a few individuals. The stories that he had sought to write were not just an unpretentious novel or love story about being a straight, bisexual, or gay individual or human sexuality. In 2010, he revisited his first manuscript, after limitless new inspirations. He decided to finally make his original short-story into a complete first novel, with the title Healing a Lifetime of Pain- The Story of Cortez DeAndreàs Santiago, Volume 1. In doing so, he also began writing three additional novels (volumes 2 through 4). His novels will delve into the arena of family, friends, life challenges, triumphs, and progression that will take the reader on an astonishing journey.
